The name Bietou (Chrysanthemoides monilifera) means ‘brother’ and probably refers to the way in which the berries are arranged in a circle, like a group of people sitting around a campfire. The scientific name also refers to the ring of berries: “monilifera” means “bearer of a necklace”.
