Berries: Bietou / Tick Berry [Chrysanthemoides monilifera]
  • This bush produces yellow daisy flowers and a ring of small black or red berries.
  • They were an important part of the diet of Khoe people.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Berries: Frutang / Froetang [Romulea rosea]
  • This small plant has an underground corm that produces narrow leaves and small pink star-shaped flowers.

  • Children eat the green fleshy fruits before they ripen and dry out.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Berries: Tortoise Berry / Skilpadbessie [Nylandtia spinosa]
  • This spiny shrub has small pink flowers and orange to red berries which make a thirst quenching snack.
