The False Bay Ecology Park multi-use area looking northwest toward Table Mountain.South Nature Reserves

If you live in the southern suburbs of Cape Town from Grassy Park to Muizenberg and Strandfontein, your closest natural areas managed by the City are Rondevlei, Zeekoevlei and Zandvlei Nature Reserves. Can you find these Nature Reserves on the map?

False Bay Ecology Park

The False Bay Ecology Park is a multi-use area about 1 200 hectares in size. It includes Rondevlei and Zeekoevlei Nature Reserves, the Cape Flats Waste Water Treatment Works, the Coastal Park landfill site and the coastal strip between Sunrise Circle at Muizenberg and Strandfontein. The area has conservation, recreation, eco-tourism and environmental education value for the people of Cape Town.An aerial photo showing the components of the False Bay Ecology Park.

It is more effective to manage natural areas as integrated wholes rather than small, fragmented natural areas. The City of Cape Town therefore manages the False Bay Ecology Park as a whole, even though it is made up of units with different functions. It is an important node in the Biodiversity Network and helps to link the Table Mountain National Park to the False Bay coast.
