If you live in Cape Town’s eastern suburbs (e.g. Somerset
West, Lwandle, Strand, Gordon’s Bay), your closest natural areas managed
by the City are Helderberg Nature Reserve, Harmony Flats Nature Reserve,
Dick Dent Bird Sanctuary, Silverboomkloof, the Lourens River Protected
Natural Environment and the Kogelberg Nature Reserve. Can you find these
areas on the Nature Reserves map? Between Gordon’s Bay and Kogelbaai, the City of Cape Town manages the western part of the Kogelberg Nature Reserve. To the east, most of this large natural area is managed by CapeNature. This reserve is part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. The Kogelberg region has been called the heart of the Cape Floristic Region because it is extremely rich in fynbos plants.
