Module 3: A Brief Human History

Cape Town is a city of diversity and contrast. For about 200 000 years, people from various parts of Africa and the world have settled within sight of Table Mountain. They have brought with them their knowledge, cultures, plants and animals. They have also benefited from the natural resources of the Cape.

In this section, we will find out about some of the people of Cape Town - from the San, the first people known to have lived here, to those of us who live in the city today. Where did people come from, and why? Where did they settle? How did they use and change the environment? And how is the city today trying to develop in ways that benefit both people and nature?
